Explosives Transfer
Emulsion explosives are made by a high shear process from a super-saturated oxidizer solution (ammonium nitrate) plus an oil phase with a surfactant to help the emulsification. Emulsion explosives have non-Newtoniann fluid properties and vary in their consistency between molasses and thick grease.
Progressing cavity pumps are the common pump used in this application. The Allweiler branded pumps have a long history of pumping explosive emulsions and are aware of the hazards such as dry pumping which generates excessive heat and can result in ignition. The AE Series and the SNZP series‚ which includes a hopper design are the leading products for this application.
